Chris Pratt has a few sweet words for his pregnant Parks and Recreation costar Aubrey Plaza

Plaza is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott

"It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year," a source told PEOPLE of the news earlier this month

Chris Pratt is excited for Aubrey Plaza to experience motherhood.

The actor, 46, reacted to Plaza’s pregnancy in an interview with E! News on Tuesday, April 28, offering warm words of support for his former Parks and Recreation costar.

“She’s going to do great,” Pratt, who played Plaza's onscreen husband Andy Dwyer in the classic NBC sitcom, said. “She’s going to be a fantastic mother. She’s [a] very caring person.”

“It’s gonna be an amazing chapter for her,” he added. “We’re all very excited for her.”

PEOPLE first reported news of Plaza’s pregnancy earlier this month, when a source close to the actress, 41, said she is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott.

“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source said, adding that “they feel very blessed.”

Plaza and Abbott, 40, have previously worked together on the Off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and the 2020 film Black Bear. Abbott is currently starring in Broadway's revival of Death of a Salesman opposite Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf.

Plaza publicly spoke about her pregnancy for the first time during a special bonus episode of the Smartless podcast on April 13.

“Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” she told hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes. “No, I said there is a baby inside of me right now.”

The actress also shared her excitement about becoming a first-time mother.

“I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?” Plaza said. “It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”

As for where she plans to raise her child, she added, “It’s not totally thought through, but East Coast for sure.”

Plaza later continued the lighthearted tone during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she joked about enlisting help for the birth.

“May need you to pull it out,” she told host Seth Meyers, 52, prompting a surprised reaction.

“What’s that? Do you want me to pull it out?” Meyers replied.

“That’s why I came here tonight,” Plaza joked, before adding, “It’s either you or Henry Winkler,” she quipped, referencing her former Parks and Recreation costar who delivered her character's baby on the show.

“I would choose Henry. Wouldn’t you?” Meyers said.

“Well, he delivered my baby on Parks and Recreation, so that’s all I know,” Plaza added.
