Lindsay Johnson and now-husband Rod Robertson got married on the very mountain they met on — but planning the slopeside ceremony didn't come without its challenges.

Johnson tells PEOPLE that figuring out how to get their closest friends and family not only up and down the mountain, but in the proper attire, proved to be a bit of a struggle.

The 38-year-old explains that they were allowed to have 18 people join them for the ceremony without them needing to have ski or snowboard equipment. However, given the couple wanted everyone to snowboard down the mountain after saying "I do," it required a bit of planning when it came to the outfits.

When asked the "most challenging" aspect of the wedding planning process, she quickly points to the "logistics for the 18 people who were supposed to be sitting in chairs."

"Because we did the family pictures beforehand, they needed to be in their nice outfits. But then, if they were riding or skiing down, they needed to change outfits and get their equipment on,” Johnson shares.

Since the ceremony was outdoors in Michigan in March, she notes that it was a bit chilly.

"If they weren’t on equipment, they had to at least put warmer clothes on, or a warm jacket and boots that probably didn’t go with their fancy outfits, or, in my mom and brother’s case, fully change into a colorful snowsuit!"

While some people wore a combination of formal wear and winter gear while riding down the mountain, "everyone then had to change back into their wedding outfits" before the reception.

Despite the extra steps, Johnson emphasizes that the day was everything they hoped for.

One of the things that she really wanted on her wedding day was a ride down the aisle with her father, which ended up being one of the highlights.

“Rod rode all the way down the aisle, my dad and I skiing down together in sync," she shares. “I was trying to match his pace; he's a super chill, smooth skier, and I am a very fast snowboarder."

Johnson shared photos and videos of her wedding day on her Instagram, showing the wedding party skiing and snowboarding down the mountain to meet at the landing where the ceremony would take place.

In her Instagram caption, she wrote, “We headed to Buck lift to ride up to the ceremony. I was stunned when we saw how many of our friends and family showed up on equipment, ready to join us.”

While things went off without a hitch, the best part of the day, according to Johnson, was "committing to spend the rest of my life loving my best friend."
