The death certificates for Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner are clarifying the timeline of their deaths.

The documents reveal that the *Princess Bride* director and his wife died within "minutes" of sustaining "multiple sharp force injuries" inflicted "with [a] knife, by another" in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14, according to PEOPLE.

Rob Reiner was discovered at 3:45 p.m., while his wife was found one minute later. The Reiners have been cremated.

Reports from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner previously confirmed that the Reiners' official causes of death were multiple sharp force injuries, with the manner of death listed as homicide for both decedents.

News of the Reiners' deaths broke Dec. 14. *The New York Times* reported that their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered her father's body at the family's home in the Brentwood neighborhood, prompting her nearby roommate to call 911. Authorities then discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body upon arrival.

Hours later, the couple's son Nick Reiner was arrested in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles in connection with the deaths of his parents. On Dec. 16, he was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He faces an additional special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.

Nick Reiner was reportedly being treated for schizophrenia before parents' deaths

Nick Reiner made his first court appearance Dec. 17, briefly speaking to confirm he would waive his right to a speedy arraignment. His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7. If convicted, he faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.

Multiple outlets recently reported that Nick Reiner has recently been treated for schizophrenia. PEOPLE reported that the accused was placed on suicide watch and is being held in solitary confinement while wearing a suicide prevention smock at all times.

Romy and her elder brother, Jake Reiner, shared a statement mourning their parents Dec. 17. "Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," the siblings said in a statement to PEOPLE. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."

Tracy Reiner, whom Rob adopted during his prior marriage to the late Penny Marshall, also spoke out about the couple's deaths. "I came from the greatest family ever," she told NBC News. "I don't know what to say. I'm in shock."
