King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Monday, April 27, starting the British monarchy’s first state visit to the United States in nearly two decades.

The royals were met at the base by U.S. Ambassador Monica Crowley at around 2:30 p.m. ET, according to Reuters. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted Charles and Camilla at the White House and subsequently hosted the royals for tea in the Green Room.

The trip is billed as a celebration of America's 250th anniversary, but comes at a strained moment in the "special relationship" between the United Kingdom and the United States.

The four-day trip includes an address by Charles to a joint session of Congress, a state dinner at the White House, a 9/11 remembrance event, and sightseeing in the Appalachia region.
