King Charles and Queen Camilla went their separate ways in the Big Apple, each attending events for causes close to their hearts.

After visiting the National September 11 Memorial together on Wednesday, April 29, the King and Queen undertook solo engagements in New York City, the second city of their United States visit.

Queen Camilla, 78, attended an event alongside high-profile writers and readers to celebrate the U.S. and the United Kingdom's shared love of literature and her charity, The Queen's Reading Room, at the New York Public Library.

The Queen was joined by Sarah Jessica Parker, who is also a literacy advocate. The pair recently crossed paths in London, when the Sex and the City actress dipped into a curtsy to greet the royal during a reception for authors and supporters of the Children's Booker Prize.

Anna Wintour and Jenna Bush Hager were also at the event.

At the event, the Queen gifted the New York Public Library a previously missing Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed toy, reuniting the baby kangaroo Roo with its mother, Kanga. (The stuffed animals that inspired A.A. Milne’s stories featuring Winnie-the-Pooh, who marks his 100th birthday this year, have been on display at the main branch of the NYPL since 1987.)

Meanwhile, King Charles, 77, headed to Harlem, where he visited a grassroots community organization that works to mentor young people affected by food insecurity through a sustainable after-school urban farming initiative. The outing connected two of the King's causes: sustainability and empowering young people.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are on the second leg of their four-day visit to the United States. They arrived in New York City after two days in Washington, D.C., where they met with President Donald Trump and attended a slate of events.

When they first arrived in the capital on Monday, April 27, they were greeted by the president and first lady Melania Trump with a private tea at the White House. They then attended a garden party at the British Embassy.

On Tuesday, April 28, King Charles made history as only the second-ever British monarch to deliver an address to a joint meeting of Congress (the first was his mother, Queen Elizabeth). That evening, the King and Queen also attended a state dinner at the White House hosted by the Trumps.
