Dylan Carter, who competed on the 24th season of The Voice, has died.
The South Carolina-based musician earned a four chair turn with his rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Look to You."
His life was celebrated by a local non-profit and Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr.
Dylan Carter, a young musician who nearly brought all four judges to tears with his season 24 audition on The Voice, has died. He was 24.
The South Carolina-based singer died in a car accident on Saturday night, according to a report from local outlet, News 2. Carter's death was additionally confirmed by Thomas Hamilton Jr., the mayor of his S.C. town, Moncks Corner.
"Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident," Hamilton wrote in a Sunday Facebook post. "As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt."
The statement continued, "To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period. The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies. He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened."
An additional statement was shared by The Local Voice, a non-profit that provides care to women fighting breast cancer. Carter was a co-founder of the organization and often performed at fundraising events.

"Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day," began the statement shared to the non-profit's social media page. "Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen."
The post continued, "We are heartbroken, but find comfort knowing he is in heaven with his mother. We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor. Please keep his family in your prayers in the coming weeks as they navigate this tremendous loss."
Carter was 20 when he took the stage for The Voice season 24, making a memorable TV debut when his blind audition earned him a four chair turn from judges Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani. He sang Whitney Houston's "I Look to You," which he later explained had a very special meaning because it was in tribute to his mother, who had died the year prior.
Carter shared that he attempted to sing the song during his mother's funeral but was too overcome with emotions to finish. Within just a few moments of being on stage for the NBC show, Carter won over all four judges, who were teary eyed throughout the performance and later praised the young singer for pouring such emotion into the song.

"So much emotion, and I saw it and I felt it when you were singing," McEntire told him, fighting back tears. "That's the kind of songs that do that to me too, because I saw you get so emotionally involved, and that's when you know you've got a great song and a great singer: when it touches your heart."
She continued, "To me, as a performer, that's when you really hone in on why you're part on this Earth, when you touch people's hearts, and you did."

Horan added, "You only get four chairs when it really moves the room."
Stefani weighed in as well, praising Carter's technique. "Your voice is so warm, but you also have so much texture to your voice," she commented. "Little nuances you were doing at the right exact moments that make it feel emotional."
Legend, also fighting back tears, added, "We're all very grateful that we get to do this show and we get to meet people like you, and we get to give you this opportunity to perform this song in tribute to your mom. We all felt it too, and we know your mother's proud of you."

Carter ultimately selected McEntire as his mentor, explaining, "Something told me to go with Reba. She could be a comforting mom figure for me."
He ended his run on The Voice weeks later in the Battle Rounds. After The Voice, Carter continued performing in the Lowcountry area and supported The Local Voice by taking part in benefit events.
