The Minnesota Vikings' team plane was forced to turn around on Saturday afternoon, shortly after taking off for New Jersey ahead of the team's game against the New York Giants on Sunday.
The Vikings' plane was headed to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) when it experienced mechanical issues that required a return to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), according to a statement from the team shared by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Saturday.
According to FlightAware data, the only flight from MSP to EWR that was diverted on Saturday was a Delta Air Lines flight that departed from MSP at 1:18 p.m. CST, and landed at MSP at 3:04 p.m. CST.
"We're ok," Vikings' cornerback Isaiah Rodgers commented on an Instagram post following the team's emergency landing.
Later Saturday evening, Pelissero shared another update on X.
"Finally, the Vikings are about to depart for Newark (again)," he wrote.
The Vikings (6 - 8) remain on schedule to kick off against the New York Giants (2 - 12) at 1 p.m. EST on Sunday.
