Break out your favorite cerulean sweater, because The Devil Wears Prada is back. After leading ladies Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt enjoyed an onstage reunion at the 2024 SAG Awards, fans couldn’t help but hope that a follow-up movie might be on the horizon. Now, it’s finally happening: After almost 20 years, Disney is giving us a sequel.

Ahead, everything we know about The Devil Wears Prada 2 so far.
What will The Devil Wears Prada 2 be about?
Variety reports that the movie will follow Streep’s character, editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, as she “navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.” It’s not yet obvious where Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, will fit into this story—but, rest assured, she’ll be there.
Who will be in the cast?
The main stars will reprise their roles for the sequel, including Hathaway (Andy Sachs), Streep (Miranda Priestly), Blunt (Emily Charlton), and even Stanley Tucci (Nigel Kipling). Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also return as Lily and Irv Ravitz, respectively.
Newcomers will include Kenneth Branagh (as Miranda’s husband), as well as Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Conrad Ricamora, Helen J. Shen, and Caleb Hearon, per Deadline and Variety.
In March 2026, Ashley appeared in a L’Oréal ad that introduced her character, Amari, as Miranda’s latest assistant. Kendall Jenner also starred in the commercial, though it’s unclear if that means she might be making a cameo in the movie.
Colin from Accounts star Patrick Brammall will be joining as Andy’s new love interest, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Lady Gaga is also confirmed to be joining the cast, per Variety. According to the outlet, Little Monsters spotted Gaga in Milan, where the movie was filming, after she wrapped the London stops of her Mayhem Ball Tour.
Director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, who worked on the original film, are also returning for the sequel, alongside producer Karen Rosenfelt.
Did the cast have any input on the plot?
The cast of the movie attended fashion shows during Milan Fashion Week, which led to Streep and Hathaway being shocked at how thin some of the models were on the catwalk. Hathaway later made sure that the models in The Devil Wears Prada 2 wouldn’t be so thin by talking with the movie’s producers.
In Hathaway’s March 2026 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Streep said she was “struck by how not only beautiful and young—everyone seems young to me—but alarmingly thin the models were. I thought that all had been addressed years ago,” Streep added, “Annie clocked it too and she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal! She’s a stand-up girl.”
Which characters will not be returning?
According to an Entertainment Weekly exclusive, Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend, Nate, will not be returning for the sequel. In March 2026, he told Us Magazine he wasn’t asked to return, adding, “I would be bitter if I wasn’t so absolutely thrilled for Anne [Hathaway] and the crew, and excited for the sequel myself. I’m a fan of the movie, and so I look forward to seeing the sequel as well. So yeah, I mean, obviously, I was disappointed [to not return], but you know, I can’t be in everything, you know?”
He added, “I mean, Andy’s moving up, and, you know, I get it. Nate’s the devil, according to some people. I hope they invite me to the premiere at least, come on!”
In April 2026, David Frankel told Entertainment Weeklythat he considered “sneaking” Grenier for a surprise cameo, but, “it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.”
He added, “I’m thrilled that he [Grenier] did a Starbucks commercial, which was really funny and so self-effacing. I love the humility and the comedy of it!”
Is there a release date?
Yes! The sequel will be released on May 1, 2026.
Can I watch the trailer?
Yes! An official teaser trailer was released in November 2025. The brief clip shows Miranda (Streep) and Andy (Hathaway) meeting in an elevator. When Andy steps inside, she greets Miranda by saying her name, to which Miranda coolly replies, “Took you long enough.”
Then, on Feb. 1, 2026, The Devil Wears Prada 2 dropped the official trailer, which depicts Andy and Miranda reuniting…and Miranda not remembering her.

A second teaser arrived on March 12, 2026. In it, Miranda shows up at Andy’s apartment unexpectedly and demands that they get to work. Miranda also holds court during a fashion shoot review and insults the images she’s presented. “And the models were encouraged to mill around like starving goats in a parking lot of a methadone clinic in New Jersey?” she asks the room full of editors, which includes Andy and Nigel.

The final trailer—which is set to Lady Gaga and Doechii’s new track “Runway”—came out on April 6, 2026. In it, Miranda admits that she only re-hired Andy after finding herself and Runway embroiled in a controversy—and adds that she intends to immediately fire her after the scandal blows over.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Andy reminisces on her initial time as Miranda’s assistant while Amari takes her to her new office space. “So I used to have your job. Got to go to Paris Fashion Week. Wore a bunch of pieces from the Chanel collection that year,” Andy says. Amari asks her, “Do you still have it?” and Andy replies, “No, I gave it away,” referencing her gifting Emily her collection of Paris Fashion Week clothing items in the first movie.
Much like the first film, Nigel also assists Andy in making sure her wardrobe is up to speed, pulling her items from Fendi, Brunello Cucinelli, and Toteme.

When did production wrap?
On June 30, 2025, 20th Century Studios took to social media to announce that the sequel was officially in production.
Then, on July 21, 2025, Hathaway shared a cheeky filming update via TikTok. Posting a video of herself brushing her teeth (and wearing—what else?—a cerulean sweater), she captioned the clip, “Heading to werk #dwp2.”
Finally, on Oct. 17, 2025, Ashley posted an Instagram photo of herself on a plane with the caption, “That’s a wrap on The Devil Wears Prada 2! Ciao for now! ✈️ Big love, that’s all. 👠❤️🎬”
Can I see some fashion moments?
Yes! On July 21, 2025, Hathaway shared a TikTok of herself in character wearing a Gabriela Hearst Spring-Summer 2025 colorful patchwork maxi dress.

On July 23, it was Streep’s turn to strut through the streets of New York City. Paparazzi caught the first glimpse of her back in costume as Miranda. Wearing the Gabriela Hearst Manuela Skirt and a purple blouse, she looked exactly as chic as we’d hoped.

On August 4, in an interview with IndieWire, the film’s writer Aline Brosh McKenna addressed the recent paparazzi shots and fan frenzy. “People will stand outside just for a glimpse of these actors and these characters that they love because seeing them in wardrobe has really excited people, especially since it’s a fashion movie,” she said. “We knew there would be a lot of interest. I personally hadn’t experienced this level of people coming out [to the set], but it’s the world we live in. In many ways, we’re speaking to a different world than we did in 2006... It stems from a legitimate desire to see these characters again. As long as everyone’s safe, what an honor that people are still interested.”
She continued, “I got a little squeal when I saw them in costume the first time. I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ It was like my son’s bar mitzvah or something. I felt like I wanted to take pictures!”
